Paris falls a few spots on Travel Leaders' 2016 destination rankings

Paris dropped out of the top 10 international destinations that Travel Leaders Group travel agents are booking for 2016, dropping to 11th place. The French city was seventh on the list last year.

This year was the first year 2011 that Paris has not made the top 10, though in 2005 it ranked as low as 15th.

Considering the November terrorist attacks in the city, agents were asked if their clients have canceled or delayed travel to France. Ten percent said that a small percentage of clients have delayed their trips, and 8.6% said a few or some clients have canceled.

Thirty-four percent said clients haven't canceled or delayed travel and are continuing with immediate and long-term plans.

When asked if they would personally travel to Paris at this time, 35.6% of agents checked "yes, absolutely," 33.7% checked "yes, but cautiously" and 15% checked "maybe."

The data was released Wednesday based on findings from Travel Leaders Group's 2016 Travel Trends Survey. The company surveyed U.S. agencies and agents from its brands, which include Travel Leaders Associates, Results Travel, Nexion and Vacation.com.  There were 1,316 responses to the survey.

Agents were asked to name up to five top destinations they are booking for 2016, both domestically and internationally.

The top 10 domestic destinations were Orlando, Maui, Alaska cruises, New York, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Miami/Miami Beach.

The top 10 international destinations were Caribbean cruises; Cancun; European river cruises; London; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Rome; Europe cruises (Mediterranean); Florence/Tuscany, Italy; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Playa del Carmen/Riviera Maya, Mexico.

"Overall, the trends are very positive, yet a spotlight continues to shine on Paris," Travel Leaders Group CEO Ninan Chacko said in a statement. "However, with less than a percentage point separating Paris from Mexico's Riviera Maya at No. 10, it's more telling that an overwhelming majority of our agents indicated they'd travel to Paris given the opportunity — an endorsement not only for the famed city, but also for not allowing fear to dictate our lives."

Also, 94.9% of agents reported client spending the same as 2015 or higher next year, and 85.2% said 2016 bookings are on par or greater than they were this time in 2015.
