The low-down: NEW Hotel, in the trendy Pláka neighbourhood around the foot of Acropolis Hill, is the 79-room brainchild of the Campana brothers. Converting a former hotel, the interiors have been renewed and recycled so that all furniture and fittings look like an art installation. Situated between the Acropolis and Syntagma square, the central location makes it ideal to wander the nearby labyrinth of streets. Each room has a balcony, and the two restaurants serves seasonal, mediterranean cuisine, while the NEW Sense spa offers treatments and a hammam. Rates are very reasonable it's worth splashing out looking for the wow-factor, why not splash out on the Penthouse Suite, located on the hotel's rooftop. The jewel in the hotel's crown, it has 180° views over Athens and the Acropolis (rates from £1,195 per night, b&b).
