If you're competing in one of the ETU European Championship events in 2017, the race itself doesn't have to be the only reason for your trip. Nirvana, British Triathlon's Official Age-Group Travel Suppliers, have given us the lowdown on some of the top European destinations on offer next year.

A small town nestled in the Estonian valleys, Otepaa is a popular winter holiday destination, especially for winter sports enthusiasts. That's exactly why athletes competing at the 2017 Otepää ETU Winter Triathlon European Championships couldn't have asked for a better event location, and have every reason to be excited about the trip.

Located in Soria in northern Spain, the ETU Duathlon European Championships courses (sprint & standard distances) are surrounded by some of the country's most outstanding scenic and historical attractions, including the Cañón del Río Lobos Nature Reserve and the 12th century San Juan de Rabanera church. The courses run through the heart of the city itself, and there are regular train and bus services available for athletes and spectators wishing to visit neighbouring Madrid in the days surrounding the race.
As one of many cities through which Europe's second-longest river flows, Bratislava in Slovakia is the ideal setting for the 2017 ETU Aquathlon European Championships. Athletes will have the unmissable opportunity to swim the magnificent Danube river.

The Danish city of Herning is no stranger to triathlon championship events and promises a high-quality course for athletes competing in the 2017 ETU Challenge Middle Distance Triathlon European Championships. Participants will swim in Herning's beautiful Lake Fuglsang and bike through the area's stunning natural surroundings before finishing on foot in the city square.

Set against the glorious backdrop of Dusseldorf's Media Harbour, the 2017 Sprint Distance Triathlon European Championships will see around 2,000 triathletes swim, bike and run their way to glory. If you're one of the lucky participants or spectators visiting one of Germany's most popular tourist destinations for this event then you're in for a very special experience.

Following the success of the landmark 2014 event, the European Triathlon Championships returns to Kitzbuhel for the first time in three years for another historic race. The last event in the Austrian city brought around 20,000 additional hotel nights to the city and the Kitzbuhel Tourist Board expects similar numbers in 2017, so it's advisable to book sooner rather than later to guarantee yourself the best spot in the city.

Having been held every year in Almere since 1983, this is the second-oldest triathlon in the world; second only to Kona, Hawaii. At 4.5m below sea level, it is also the lowest triathlon in Europe! The course is located just 20 minutes from the Netherland's world-famous capital city of Amsterdam. It's therefore hardly surprising that over 2,700 athletes competed in last year's race and similar numbers are expected to be competing in 2017 at what promises to be another spectacular event.
With some great destinations to visit, Nirvana can make your trip even better. Not only do they offer top accommodation choices, they can also organise flights, airport transfers, bike transport, event transfers, bike mechanics and physio support.
